Hiking & Rock Climbing in Franconia NotchHiking & Rock Climbing

Hiking is one of the main reasons people starting visiting the White Mountains of New Hampshire. AND we are talking diversity. EVERY level of hiker from the very beginner to those "on the brink" can find what they're looking for.

Start with a "Tourist Walk" through the Flume or the Basin.

Try a hike up to Artist Bluff and then Bald Mountain. This is where you start if you just want to see if you'll like hiking. You'll work a little and be rewarded with a view from some great little cliffs. You'll know you're in the mountains.

Got some experience in hiking? How about a day hike to the top of Cannon Mountain. People in real good shape can do Mount Washington (the highest mountain in the east) as a day hike. (We have one hiker that likes to climb it in January or February.)

And for those that would like to do two, three, four or more days from peak to peak there is a great hut system in place. Several of our families use Thayers Inn as the "base camp". Get an early and "fresh" start. Have a place to come back to and celebrate your success.
